The year 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of university education in optometry in Canada, when l’École d’optométrie became affiliated with l’Université de Montréal in 1925. This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the school’s history. The period from 1925 to 1990 was previously presented in a Canadian Journal of Optometry issue.1 This issue addresses the pivotal period from 1990 to 2001 for the institution. The period from 2001 to 2025 will be presented in a future issue.
