Abstract

This study evaluated the usefulness of the Vistech MCJ8000 CS and disability glare measurements by their reliability and redundancy. Three subject groups were used: young normal (N=24), older normal (N=22) and cataract (N=32). The high correlations between adjacent spatial frequency CS scores suggest that much of the information collected is superfluous. All that is needed is a reliable VA measurement and an assessment of CS at or near the peak of the CS curve. Test-retest results of 3 7 subjects indicate the MCT results have poor repeatability. The important factors are the step size and the psychophysical method of threshold determination. The standardization of the glare source appear as to be of less importance if these factors are not optimised.
