A Case of Pituitary Adenoma

An adenoma is defined as "an epi­thelial tumour usually benign, with a gland-like structure."¹ Pituitary ade­nomas can be divided into three catego­ries. ² Chromophobe adenoma, the most common type, creates its effects solely by the pressure of the expanding tissue. Such pressure is exerted on the surrounding glandular tissue of the pituitary causing various symptoms of hypopituitarism. As well, pressure can be produced on the sella turcica, and the optic chiasm. Occa­sionally, the nasopharynx can be involved.
