Canadian Optometry Students in Hong Kong

Abstract

After extensive planning by Dr. George Woo, a professor at the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry and currently Head of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at the Hong Kong Poly­technic, a programme was arranged where three third year optom­etry students from Canada could fulfill their summer clinic credit requirements at various eye care facilities in Hong Kong. Two weeks were spent by the students at each of the following loca­tions: the Low Vision and General Eye Clinic (LVGEC) at the Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB); the private practice of Woo, Tong and Partners; the Eye Unit at the Li Ka Shing Specialist Clinic at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin; and the Eye Clinic at the Yaumatei Jockey Club Polyclinic. Saturdays during the eight-week programme were spent at the Hong Kong Polytechnic Optometry Clinic. Services provided by these five clinics reflect the wide scope of eye care currently available to the public.
