Le blépharospasme essentiel est un trouble idiopathique caractérise par des spasmes involontaires progressifs du muscle orbiculaire de l'œil et des muscles de la partie supérieure du visage (le sourcilier er le muscle pyramidal du nez). Les spasmes sont bilatéraux, spontanés, intermittents er involontaires. Alors que le blépharospasme peut être isole, on observe, au début ou plus tard, chez plusieurs patients la contraction d'autres muscles faciaux, oromandibulaires ou cervicaux. Le présent articles décrit les caractéristiques cliniques, le diagnostic différentiel et le traitement actuel du blépharospasme.
