Le syndrome des taches blanches évanescentes multiples en tant qu’épiphénomène (EpiMEWDS) est considéré comme une variante rare du syndrome des taches blanches plus courant, le syndrome des taches blanches évanescentes multiples (MEWDS). Le MEWDS traditionnel a été associé à des étiologies comprenant une infection virale récente ou une vaccination récente pour une multitude d’affections systémiques. En revanche, on pense que l’EpiMEWDS est secondaire à une maladie concomitante de la rétine externe, de la choroïde, ou des deux. Les signes établis du MEWDS comprennent des taches blanches au niveau de la rétine externe ainsi qu’une granularité fovéale, qui peuvent entraîner des symptômes tels qu’une perte de vision, des métamorphopsies, des scotomes centraux et paracentraux, ou toute combinaison de ceux-ci. L’EpiMEWDS présente un tableau clinique similaire, mais s’accompagne également des signes et symptômes de l’affection causale sous-jacente. Ce rapport de cas décrit une occurrence rare d’EpiMEWDS secondaire à une membrane néovasculaire choroïdienne idiopathique.
