Welcome to Winnipeg, the vibrant, creative capital of Manitoba. We are pleased to invite you to the 32nd Biennial Congress of the Canadian Association of Optometrists.

The Winnipeg Convention Centre is one of western Canada's top meeting facilities and is situated in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. It is connected via skywalk to the host hotels and three shopping centres. Our dual track continuing educa­tion program offers over 20 hours of continuing education including sessions on: practice management, myopia, binocular vision, anterior segment, glaucoma, posterior segment, pharmaceuticals, malpractice, and cross linking.

New to this congress is a key note speaker pre­sentation by Ron White, a two time USA memory champion. His seminar on improving memory will be open to all congress registrants including those signed up for the optometric assistant and compan­ions' program.

The convention begins with the President's Cup Golf tournament on Wednesday, July 20th at the Links at Quarry Oaks. The following evening, the opening ceremonies are at the Manitoba Museum, whose award winning galleries offer a vivid portrayal of Manitoba's rich and colourful history, while telling the story of the province throughout the ages. Friday, July 22nd, is reserved for individual class reunions, many of which will be held at The Forks, a popular attraction located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers and home to a range of eclectic dining choices for any palate and some of the city's best patios. 

Whatever your interest, you'll find Winnipeg a per­fect blend of history, activity, entertainment, recre­ation or relaxation. The programs planned for your companions, children and tweens are sure to keep your family entertained while you are in lectures. Activities include the Hermetic Code Tour, walking tours of our beautiful city, Fort Whyte Alive, Lower Fort Garry Village, canoeing on the Red River, and Winnipeg's own version of the Amazing Race.

A must see during your visit to Winnipeg is the 24th annual Winnipeg Fringe Theatre festival, North America's second largest fringe festival. With performances from noon to midnight you are sure to have time to catch a show or walk to Old Market Square to the Exchange District to watch the outdoor stage, or Kids' Fringe featuring busk­ers and stage performers. All of this within walking distance of the host hotels!

From the architecturally distinctive Exchange to the heart of history at The Forks, Winnipeg is a striking blend of old and new, traditional and avant-garde — a cultural oasis without pretension. You ain't seen nothing yet unless you've seen Winnipeg, so come party with us July 20th-23rd!
